The submission includes 300 houses of different sizes and designs,
along with a series of children’s play areas and a new village square.
Space for recreation and community facilities has been allocated and will
be determined further by a study commissioned by Newcastle under Lyme
Borough Council.
The illustrative proposals have been prepared following a number of
consultations, enabling residents to feed valuable comments into the
development of the plans. The overwhelming preference from the community
was for a mixed–use development.
The latest revisions were presented back to local people – ahead of
the planning application submission – at a week long exhibition, led by
English Partnerships. Over 300 residents from Silverdale and Parksite took
the opportunity view the plans and further discuss the proposals with the
project team.
Fiona Piercy, English Partnerships’ Senior Regeneration Manager, West Midlands said:
“This is an important step in the regeneration of Silverdale Colliery. We aim to
help breathe new life into the area and, with the residents of Silverdale, we have
created a masterplan which we believe will bring real benefits now and in the future.
We expect a planning decision this autumn and, if successful, preparatory work
should begin on site next year.”
The outline planning submission has to meet relevant criteria before the
application is officially registered for consideration. Once registered, details of the
planning application will be available to the general public for comment. Newcastle under
Lyme Borough Council will also undertake a separate public consultation regarding the
application.
Residents can keep up to date with all the news and progress of the scheme at the newly
updated website dedicated to the Silverdale New Vision project by logging-on to

Free internet access is available locally at Silverdale Information Centre in The
Parade and at Parksite Action Centre.
The regeneration of Silverdale Colliery is being funded through English
Partnerships’ £386.5m National Coalfields Programme, which aims to create new
jobs, homes, leisure facilities and open space in former coalfield communities throughout
England.
